the study of the relationship between memory and achievement motivation with gender and academic achievement of students of urmia medical sciences university feizi pour h [1] *, farjah gh [2] , qaderneghad m [3] received: 9 nov , 2011 accepted: 21 jan , 2012 abstract background & aims : memory gives possibility to mental life of human including thoughts, perceptions, opinions, and in general, learning. academic failure rely on the weakness of memory is an internal and durable supporting oneself influences on the learning strongly and negatively. the purpose of this research is the study of the effect of memory and motivation with gender and academic achievement in order to prevent students from falling. materials & methods : 89 of successful and unsuccessful of non-medical and medical students from both sexes were under investigation by measuring short-term and long-term memories and the achievement motive. measuring instrument of this study were short-term and long-term memories tests, amt and mean average of the students. and finally the analysis of variance was used for analyzing data . result : there was no significant difference between short-term and long-term memories in both sexes. also between short-term and long-term memories of successful and unsuccessful students as well as medical and non-medical students no significant differences were observed . but in our study we found significant difference between achievement motivation in both successful and unsuccessful students. finally in this study females showed significantly higher motivation than males. conclusion: the results showed that success or failure of students in all courses and grades in both sexes is more related to the motivation than memory . key words: memory, motivation, gender, academic achievement, student address : counseling office of urmia university of medical science, urmia, iran, tel: (+098)441-2937286 email : [email protected] [1] msc of educational psychology ,urmia university of medical science, urmia, iran (corresponding author) [2] assistant professor of anatomical science, faculty of medicine, urmia university of medical science, urmia, iran [3] bs of general psychology ,urmia university of medical science, urmia, iran
